How do you hear God’s voice when you haven’t been listening?

When Ande Sutton’s adoptive dad dies, she expects his will to be simple. Instead, it drops the surprise of her life, and she doesn’t like surprises. A grandfather may still be alive. An uncle disappeared years ago. And her biological parents left her an inheritance which turns out to be no small hill of beans.

Trying to sort all this out, she goes to the place she often does when she craves peace and quiet - the local cemetery. Her yellow Lab, Chester, always accompanies her, trotting beside her when not stopping to sniff. But this time he finds more than the trail of a squirrel - he finds a desecrated grave. Ande knows the right thing to do is report the crime, although with her plate already overflowing it’s the last thing she wants to do.

Six years ago, Detective Logan Crane’s failed marriage and the death of his mother pushed him to leave his hometown and start fresh. With the help of a pastor who leads him in prayer, he dedicates his life to Jesus Christ, which gives him clarity and focus he never had. He pours himself into his job, leaving little time for anything else. But in the back of his mind, he wonders if God would allow him a second chance at marriage. He makes a promise to let God lead in finding the right woman.

When Logan and Ande’s paths cross, they both feel a pull toward each other. He is confident in his faith, assured of the presence of God in his life, and feels this may be the Lord nudging him. Ande has lost touch with her faith, not sure she would know God’s voice if He spoke to her. Dating is more of an annoyance, so she avoids it, but would make an exception for this detective.

Shortly after meeting, their lives become intertwined like a vine climbing a wire fence, heading toward a destination Logan had prayed for and Ande could never have imagined.
